05 May 2020

Home to many theatres, music venues and fascinating exhibits, Watford is a town full of arts and culture. Despite not being able to explore the venues in person at the moment we are still able to attend events ‘virtually’ online. Watford Palace Theatre and the Pump House are hosting a digital program of events over the coming days and weeks. Discover what’s on in Watford this weekend including Watford Museum’s VE Day Celebrations.

Watford Palace Theatre – Poetry Reading

Originally built as a music hall in 1908, Watford Palace Theatre has seen many changes over the years and welcomed famous actors, actresses and artistic directors to its stage. Now offering a variety of plays and the much-loved Christmas pantomime, Watford Palace Theatre has launched their Palace @ Home program so you can enjoy a variety of shows from the comfort of your own living room.

Each week Palace @ Home celebrates the power of poetry with a dramatic poetry reading. Week one saw Julia Watson (from Talking Heads) reading Adlestrop by Edward Thomas.

Follow their weekly poetry readings here or their full digital events programme here.

Pump House – Live theatre and singing competition

During May the Pump House are sharing a one-man online performance of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic horror story ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’. Available to watch on Saturday 9th May and Sunday 10th May at 10pm, the short story follows “an unnamed narrator who insists on his sanity whilst describing the gruesome details of the crime he has committed…”.

Watch the live stream here.

If you are not a fan of horror and are looking for something a little more light-hearted then don’t miss the Pump House’s singing competition “isoVision”.

isoVision is a competition of short songs or comedy items created by people while in isolation. You will be able to vote for your favourite acts on the night and one of the jury vote presenters will be Watford’s Mayor, Peter Taylor and the winning entry will be played on Vibe 107.6 Radio.

The song competition will be broadcast live from the Pump House YouTube channel on Saturday 9th May from 7pm.
